From Life To Death To Life Again
October 23, 2018, as I woke up at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, it felt like I was still dreaming. My arms were in restraints, there were tubes and IV’s in every part of my body. A tube was pulled out of throat so I could begin to try to talk. The nurse asked me if I knew where I was and I had to admit, no I didn’t. She then asked me if I knew what day it was, once again I had to admit I had no clue. The last I remember I was out with a friend watching the Lakers game, having a great time. I had a couple of drinks but nothing too extreme, how did I end up here? Is this a dream?
The nurse told me I was paralyzed so I need to have assistance if I need to get out of the bed. I was instructed that I need to keep my neck stable as well, it was broken and will take a while to heal. I was totally shocked because it seemed as if this wasn’t a dream. Something happened that brought me to this point. God spared my life but I was paralyzed. I know I should have been thankful that I was living but I immediately thought of my daughter and how I wouldn’t be able to pick her up again, how did this happen? I started receiving phone calls from family, from friends and church members. Everyone sounded so relieved. Finally my doctor came in and explained things. It was Monday afternoon, I have been in surgery and medical induced coma since late Saturday evening. I made it through surgery but I am still at a high risk of further medical issues such as stroke due to the
